Canadian Comedy and Celtic Royalty Headed to the Great Indoors

New concerts added to the 2017 concert line-up at Casino Rama Resort

RAMA, ON (Monday, July 17th, 2017) – Casino Rama Resort is excited to welcome to the award-winning Entertainment Centre stage for the first time Canadian comedian Jeremy Hotz on September 29th, and Canadian Celtic royal couple Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy return for one night only on September 22nd.

The entertainment world is filled with extraordinary stories. But few match the beguiling true-life tale of Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, Canada’s reigning couple of Celtic music, whose dazzling career achievements underpin an incomparable off-stage life.

Indeed, when two of the planet’s very best fiddle players married in 2002, the proverbial mantelpiece was instantly crammed with JUNO and East Coast Music Awards. Though MacMaster and Leahy followed different trajectories – she a Cape Breton native who could step-dance before she could walk; he the oldest brother of acclaimed family group Leahy – both had assuredly crested the traditional music peak.

“The fiddle was definitely common ground for us when we first got together,” MacMaster, a Member of the Order of Canada since 2006, recalls with a chuckle. “But I was so in awe of Donnell’s family, of 11 siblings who could play and had a family band. And here I am now doing almost exactly the same thing. Well, kind of.”

That’s no small feat when your combined album sales exceed one million; when past collaborators include classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma, bluegrass star Alison Krauss and banjo ace Béla Fleck; and when your ecstatic fan base (which boasts Shania Twain and The Chieftains) stretches from Sydney, Nova Scotia to Sydney, Australia.

Two of the world’s most celebrated fiddlers, who also happen to be married, create a whirlwind performance of fiddle-driven music, dance, and song, combining the best of French, Celtic, bluegrass, and Cajun with the music and stories of Cape Breton.

One of the most unique stand-up comics working today, Canadian born Jeremy Hotz is a proven international success. In 1997, he performed at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and received a standing ovation after his debut performance at the festival’s prestigious television gala. He returned to the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005 (voted Best Performer by the “Globe and Mail”), 2007, 2008 (Chosen as Best in Fest by the “Montreal Gazette”) 2011-2013 where he was one of the hosts for the Just for Laughs TV series for The Comedy Network and 2016 where he did his own one man show at the Olympic Theatre. Recognition came quick, as American studios and networks showed interest and Jeremy was offered major development deals from CBS, DISNEY and COMEDY CENTRAL.

Another highlight for Jeremy was his debut appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, followed by five appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Jeremy has also appeared on Comedy Central with his own standup special and filmed two others; "What A Miserable Show This Is..." and “Some of the Best of Jeremy Hotz” for CTV. His current DVD “What a Miserable DVD This Is...”  is a hit. And Jeremy is planning a new one hour comedy special, “Profoundly Disappointed” in 2017.
