Important Cyber Issue Information

    On November 10th, 2016, Casino Rama Resort became aware that it had been the victim of a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of (past and present) customer, employee and vendor information. While there is no evidence that the hacker continues to have access to the Casino Rama Resort system, the hacker has published some of the stolen information on the Internet. We continue to cooperate with the on-going investigation of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) which is supported by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). We remain in communication with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, as well as the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

    Data security is a top priority for Casino Rama Resort, and we take our responsibility to protect our customers', employees' and vendors' personal information very seriously.

    Casino Rama Resort has, and will continue, to attempt to reach out to individuals who have been identified as affected to offer assistance. We strongly urge those who have been contacted to utilize the comprehensive credit monitoring services offered.

    We continue to encourage past and present Casino Rama Resort employees and customers who have provided personal or financial information to the casino to actively monitor their financial accounts and information, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to their financial institutions.

    Casino Rama Resort deeply regrets this situation and recognizes the seriousness of this issue. We appreciate the understanding of our customers, employees and stakeholders regarding this cyber incident.

    1.    What happened?

    Casino Rama Resort has been the victim of a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of customer, employee and vendor information.     2.    What type of information is involved?

    The hacker claims to have accessed information that includes Casino Rama Resort IT information, financial reports regarding the hotel and casino, security incident reports, Casino Rama Resort email, patron credit inquiries, collection and debt information, vendor information and contracts and employee information including performance reviews, payroll data, terminations, social insurance numbers and dates of birth. The hacker claims that the employee information dates from 2004 to 2016, and that some of the other categories of information taken date back to 2007.

    3.    Was my information affected?

    Casino Rama Resort has, and will continue, to attempt to reach out to individuals who have been identified as affected to offer assistance.We strongly urge those who have been contacted to utilize the comprehensive credit monitoring services offered.

    We continue to encourage past and present Casino Rama Resort employees and customers who have provided personal or financial information to the casino to actively monitor their financial accounts and information, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to their financial institutions.

    Casino Rama Resort has arranged for comprehensive credit monitoring services for past and present employees and is reaching out to these individuals. Attempts to contact a certain number of patrons who have been determined to be eligible for credit monitoring services based on the investigation to date is occurring. Casino Rama Resort continues to investigate and will attempt to notify newly identified individuals.

    4.    What steps are you taking to protect customer (and others') information?

    We have and will continue to take action to protect our & your information. Data security is a top priority for Casino Rama Resort, and we take our responsibility to protect our customers' and employees' personal information very seriously.

    Our internal teams have been working with cyber security experts to further safeguard our systems. While the investigation is still ongoing we will take all steps necessary to protect against it happening again.

    To promote online safety and privacy, Casino Rama Resort urges all employees, patrons and vendors to be aware of any potentially harmful email content from third parties. Cyber security experts have also advised that fake websites that appear to display the stolen content may be created, and should be avoided.

    5.    Should customers be wary of emails from outside sources?

    6.    Have credit cards been compromised?

    The payment systems that are used for credit cards were not affected by this breach. There is no indication that the hacker had access to our hotel payment system or any third party systems used to process concert tickets, food and beverage, and spa payments.

    However, out of an abundance of caution, we urge past and present Casino Rama Resort employees and customers who have provided personal or financial information to the casino to actively monitor their financial accounts and information, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to their financial institutions.

    7.    Were the games hacked?

    No, the situation at Casino Rama Resort did not affect games on the casino floor. Game performance & set-up are independent of other Casino Rama Resort networks.
